A funnel doesn't usually break in one place. It leaks in several places at once — and each small leak compounds the ones after it. A 20% loss at each of five stages leaves you with 3% of your original traffic becoming customers. That's not a bad business — that's five separate fixable problems.
Stage 1: Visibility — are people finding you?
Check your Google Business Profile impressions. If you're getting fewer than 500 views per month in a metro area, you have a visibility problem. Check whether your top competitors have significantly more reviews and are ranking above you on local search.
Stage 2: Click-through — is your listing compelling?
Reviews, photos, and your service description determine whether someone clicks your listing or a competitor's. A business with 12 reviews and no photos will lose clicks to a business with 80 reviews and a complete profile — even if the quality is identical.
Stage 3: Landing — does your website convert?
This is where most businesses lose the most leads. If your website loads slowly, doesn't have a clear CTA above the fold, or lacks trust signals, a majority of visitors leave without doing anything.
Stage 4: Response — are you responding fast enough?
A lead who fills out a form and hears back in 4 hours is 80% less likely to convert than one who gets a response in under 5 minutes. Speed of follow-up is the most underrated conversion lever in local services.
